About This Course

This course aims to give you a basic introduction to the Deaf community in Singapore, as well as a look at its unique language and culture. You will learn more about deafness, how deaf people live their daily lives, how they communicate, and more. You will also pick up some basic Singapore Sign Language (SgSL) words and phrases. We hope you enjoy the course!

Participants who have completed all the activities - including reading, watching clips, quizzes, assessment - and 100% of the course (with unlimited attempts) will be eligible for the e-Certificate of Participation. (The download link to the e-Certificate of Participation is available in Session 8.)

What You Will Learn
On the completion of this course, you will be able to:
  1. Use appropriate terms to describe deaf people
  2. Identify the Deaf etiquette
  3. State the myths and misconceptions about the Deaf community
  4. Sign numbers in SgSL
  5. Sign the alphabet in SgSL
  6. Sign days in SgSL
  7. Sign months in SgSL
  8. Sign greetings in SgSL
  9. Introduce yourself in SgSL
  10. Sign work-related terms in SgSL

Target Audience
General public. No experience required.

Desktop / Laptop / Mobile Device.

Note: This course is designed to last 1 to 1.5 hours. Some participants may need or spend more time to watch the videos and practice their signing skills.
