About this course

This course surveys the shape and needs of Industry 4.0 and the features of digitalized and automated workplaces within the contexts of policymaking, socio-political leadership, retraining schemes, political economy of industry transformation, industrial actions and the concept of employability in government-private sector. This course also outlines the challenges and benefits of the digital revolution, Industry 4.0 and Globalisation 2.0.

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • Discuss the speed, scope and impact of Industry 4.0 and Globalization 2.0.
  • Explain key concepts related to retraining needs.
  • Explain the nexus and interconnections between government, private sector/management and workers/unions (the ‘tripartite’).
  • Describe the political, social, and economic challenges of coordinating the retraining process and articulating changes in the workplace.
  • Compare and contrast Singapore case study with other empirical comparative examples.
