This course provides learners with the skills and knowledge required to perform welding operations, including surface preparation and quality checks of welded parts. Participants will learn to observe safe practices, identify common welding hazards, and select appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). The course covers essential welding parameters, operating welding equipment, and performing welding tasks according to technical specifications. Learners will also gain expertise in measuring and visually inspecting welds, addressing defects, and documenting repair procedures for future traceability. Additionally, the course emphasizes maintaining welding tools and equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
This unit is relevant to operators, technicians and supervisors across all process sector in the R1 framework, to carry perform welding on plates to form permanently-assembled metal metal structures using SMAW in 3G position.
On completion of this competency unit, learners have the knowledge and application skills to perform welding, including surface preparation, using appropriate resources. It also includes checking the quality of welded parts in accordance to technical manuals.
