This course focuses on welding techniques for Level 1 welding technicians, emphasizing the use of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) to weld steel plates in 1G to 3G positions. Participants will learn to set up a welding work environment, perform butt joints on metal plates in the 3G position, and conduct quality checks on welded joints to ensure they meet organizational standards. The course also highlights maintaining a safe working environment and identifying weld defects. By the end, learners will be proficient in performing welding tasks while adhering to industry safety and quality standards
This unit is relevant to operators, technicians and supervisors across all process sector in the R1 framework, to carry perform welding on plates to form permanently-assembled metal metal structures using SMAW in 3G position.
Course Alm
A level 1 welding technician is one who welds plates to form permanently assembled metal structures in accordance with internationally accepted welding standards. The welding processes includes 1G – 3G welding positions, and to ensure that the welded joints meet the organization requirement.
The work he/she performs includes the following:
CE 1. Perform shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) on steel plates
CE2. Perform quality checks on weld
Learner’s Objectives
On completion of the course, participants should be able to perform welding on plates to form permanently assembled metal structures using SMAW in 3G position.
