Unlocking business Malay: the key to new opportunities

Being able to speak Malay opens the doors to business, investment and employment opportunities in Malaysia, a country with a domestic market of close to 32 million residents, a cost-competitive manufacturing base, and an abundance of natural resources like oil, rubber and timber.

With fluency in the language, you will not only be able to connect better with your partners and employers, but also improve understanding of the local laws and business etiquette required— helping you achieve the goals that you set.

To improve your language skills and unlock the key to this market, consider the SUSS Business Malay (bizmalay) course.

What will you learn?

The key to mastering language is in practice. That’s why this course has been designed to be practical and scenario-based — so you will have a chance to practice the language and conversation skills relevant in both business and professional contexts. Topics include:

  • Talking about purchases, buying, ordering products and selling
  • Describing the location of one’s place of work
  • Requests for jobs to be done

  • Interview sessions
  • Working with others

What will you achieve?

Over 10 weeks, you can expect a gradual acquisition of competencies across listening, reading, speaking and writing, moving from a basic understanding to an intermediate or more advanced level.

You will leave, able to describe basic information about yourself and your work, as well as to understand requests and communicate through simple instructions.

These should allow you to interact smoothly in daily activities, as well as handle telephone conversations both in the office and at home. At work, you will be equipped to question, negotiate and politely discuss the pros and cons of products and services, as well as formulate and refuse requests in negotiations.
